Description
Here is an interesting pair of modern Botswana postal items to Scotland with a strong wildlife interest in stamps and the view on the postcard. They are in fine condition, with a little edge and corner wear from international postal handling.First we have a small and neat envelope with lots of interest. It bears a P2 large blue emperor butterfly stamp and a sable antelope stamp overprinted P2-10. They are tied by an unusual and interesting large BotswanaPost "Northern Sorting Centre / Morning Shift" circular handstamp The date is not clear because of the darkness of the stamp and overprint but the stamps have 2002 and 2007 imprints. The cover from John and Onty Bandy in Francistown is addressed to the Lord's Work Trust in Kilmarnock, Scotland. I acquired it from a charity.
Then we have a striking 1985 postcard picturing a swooping fish eagle (photo by John Matterson) that was sent to a Mr and Mrs Melvin, Strowan Road, Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland. The wildlife theme is continued with a 20t stamp of a barn owl feeding a mouse or vole to chicks. The stamp is tied by a Mau, Botswana double ring postmark of 5 VIII 85. The message is about a "dream come true" visit to friends.
An attractive and elusive Botswana postally used pair.
The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2021 postage rates. British buyers will pay just .40 postage.
As I have some fixed-price items anyone who purchases one of my lots might want to look at them before paying. Additional postage is free for subsequent purchases unless they are too big for my normal very low basic rates. If you are buying more than one item please wait for me to send an invoice so I can combine postage.
When payment for lots won is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item cannot go out until the following Monday.
